Mitsubishi will celebrate the arrival of the New Year with the arrival of their first-ever plug-in hybrid. All the style, comfort, convenience and adaptability that comes with the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV will be available at the beginning of 2013 in the automaker's very first plug-in hybrid SUV: the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid.

The new Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid is expected to have a combined 143 MPGe and a total driving range of 550 miles. Pure electric driving range is in the realm of 35 miles. Not only is that enough to run errands and, if you live close enough, go to and from work using zero gas. It beats the electric ranges of other EV like the Prius Plug-In, Accord Plug-In Hybrid, Fusion Energi and C-MAX Energi.

If you've been hesitant to adopt a hybrid and worrying about running out of charge, you can't be anymore.  As long as you have gas in your Mitsubishi Plug-In, the traditional, petrol-powered powertrain will automatically take over. The transition is so seamless; you probably won't even notice it.

And other show stopper, might have been the charge time. How does four hours sound? That is all it takes to give the new 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid a full charge, using a 240-volt outlet.

After debuting at the 2012 Moscow International Motor Show, the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is set to arrive to Schaller Mitsubishi early next year.
